Planning a fantastic vacation

Whether your type of vacation includes suntanning on a beach, climbing a mountain or seeing the sights, you want to make it the best vacation possible. After all, you have been saving, shopping and getting excited for it for so long; why wouldn’t you want to make it as great as possible?

With that said, planning a vacation can also be very stressful. There is so much to decide and remember to do that it can become overwhelming. To try to make it a bit easier, I have put together a list of things to consider and plan for when planning a fantastic vacation.

Where do you want to stay?- Booking the right place to stay while on vacation is very important. When you are looking around for rooms, is is a good idea to consider price, size, accessibility, location, access to public transportation and rating. It may seem like a lot to look for, but the research will be worth it when you find the perfect one.

Where do you want to go?- This can also be a difficult thing to decide, especially if you are traveling with young kids or older members of the family and want to accommodate them. Check out my very first post for some tips on deciding where you want to go!

What will you do when you’re there?-  Depending on the type of vacation you are going on, it may be a good idea to plan ahead on what you are doing. If you are going to Orlando, Fl and are going to the amusement parks, plan ahead on what parks you are going too and on what days. You may find that you can find discount tickets if you plan ahead.

What can you save money on?-

whether its dining in instead of out, walking everywhere (if possible) instead of renting a car, refraining from buying things when you don’t need them, or just taking a day on the beach instead of spending money on a day out; planning ahead on what you can save money on will pay off in the end.

What can you take with you so that you don’t have to buy it there?-  If your vacation is only a few hours away from home, try making some meals ahead of time and freezing them once you get there. This will not only save money but also time that you can use to enjoy your self.

Hope this helps!

Airports

To kids, the airport is an exciting place where huge airplanes land and big sensors detect bombs and other dangerous things. To adults though, it is merely a busy, noisy, stressful, boring place you have to spend at least 2 hours in before catching your flight.

airport planes

While airports will always be boring and the least most exciting part of your trip, here are a few ways to deal with them and actually make them more fun.

What to do while waiting to board

-People watch – I know it sounds bad, but people watching is probably the most interesting thing to do, and what a perfect place to do it! Just try to be discreet…

– Bring a book- A tale as old as time. Bringing along a book offers the perfect way to escape from the hustle and bustle of the airport. Just don’t get so into the book that you miss your flight…or you may end up looking like this…

love actually sam

– Take a nap- Hey, as long as you don’t snore, why not?

– Watch a movie -The great thing about living in 2015 is that we can now take movies basically anywhere with the help of an iPad, phone or computer.

Packing

Unless you have Mary Poppins never-ending bag, or have become a wizard and can perform an undetectable extension charm (Harry potter reference, sorry if you missed it), packing is usually a huge pain in the butt. From deciding what you have to take to remembering your toothbrush or your favourite pair of sandals, packing usually starts out fun and goes down hill very quickly.

So, to aid in your packing ventures, check out these tips on making packing easier.

Tip #1: Make a list

I know, know. Make a list? I sound like a mum making sure her kids aren’t just packing food to go to summer camp. But seriously, making a list of every thing you need to take as you think of it will help you when you start packing. It will also lessen the chances of you forgetting to pack something. so grab a piece of paper and a pen and get listing.

Tip #2:Set out everything before packing

Also sounds rudimentary, but I find it a big help. Laying out everything you are taking with you before you pack it helps you visually see what you have and what you don’t. If you pack as you go you could end up packing the same thing twice, or not packing it at all.

Tip #3: Only pack what you need

I know that I, Personally, am one of those people who over packs. And I can’t help it! What if it rains when you’re there, or there aren’t laundry facilities, or it gets cold so you need a pair of jeans! Whatever the reasoning, try to pack light, as this means you have more room to bring stuff back with you.

Tip #4: saving space

If you are an over packer and there is no way to escape it, then this tip is for you. When packing, try rolling up your clothes. Not only does this prevent them from wrinkling, it also saves a lot of space in your suitcase. Another thing you can do is out your socks inside of yours shoes. This will free up space and also help your shoes keep their shape if they are squished.

I hope these tips helped!

Finding the perfect travel buddy

Many people dream of traveling the world; riding up to the top of the Eiffel tower, zip-lining overtop of the rainforest, exploring medieval castles and riding the London underground. But there is one problem: these fantasies usually involve a second person.

HOBBIT

Finding the perfect person to travel with is no easy task. You could be best friends with someone and then go on vacation with them and discover that you are polar opposites. So, to avoid such catastrophe, here are 5 tips on how to find the perfect travel buddy.

Tip #1: Pick someone you have known for over a year.

Why a year, you ask? Because a year is a solid amount of time to scope out your friends. You know, to make sure their not serial killers or wanted criminals. If you take someone with you who you don’t know all that well, chances are it’s not going to end that great. You could get there and find out that your travel buddy snores so loud you can’t sleep, or is allergic to every.single.dust.molecule. known to man and spends the whole trip inside the hotel room. You get my drift.

Tip #2: Pick a friend who has the same travel expectations

What do i mean by this? I mean if you are planning to spend your entire vacation getting to bed early, waking up early, and going sightseeing and NOTHING ELSE, you may want to let your travel buddy know. You don’t want to get there and find out that your buddy really only wants to hit up clubs and get drunk. Sightseeing + hangovers = not a fun vacation. For anyone.

Tip #3: If you are low maintenance, pick a friend that is to

I know that when I go traveling, there is minimal time for priming and primping my appearance. It’s all about comfort; Running shoes, bag, comfy clothes, hat. So, if you are like me and would rather have the time to explore than look immaculate; make sure to pick someone who feels the same way. If your ready to explore a new city and your travel buddy takes and hour to do their hair, it may not end well.

Tip #4: Take someone who has enough money

help me im poor

It may sound mean, but make sure your travel buddy has enough money to support themselves. If you are constantly having to pick up the bill and pay for things its going to make the trip a lot less fun.  Arrange who is going to pay for what before the trip so that you both know how much money to bring with you.

Tip #5: Go with someone you know will be a lot of fun

did we just become best friends?

Perhaps the most important aspect of picking a travel buddy is picking someone you know you will have a lot of fun with. The perfect travel buddy is someone who will make you smile, keep you calm, and appreciate where you are in the world.

So there they are. The 5 tips to finding the perfect travel buddy!
